Remember - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the following:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.  Germs spread this way.

  • If you are sick, consider staying home and limiting contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Dear Neumann Faculty
and Staff:

With flu season quickly approaching, many of you may have already noticed an increase in information and updates provided by the media, about the H1N1 flu virus (swine flu).  Be assured, Neumann University is committed to directly providing you with important information as it is received.  We continue to track and monitor all information being provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PaDOH).

Currently, health officials are predicting that the H1N1 flu virus will return this fall and winter, although they are unable to predict the level of its severity with a high degree of certainty.  This virus is highly contagious and although more prevalent in individuals age 5 to 25, will cause a higher risk for employees/faculty with chronic medical conditions or those who are pregnant.

In compliance with the CDC and PaDOH recommendations, Neumann University will mandate that any faculty or staff member with a fever and flu-like symptoms follow the CDC self-isolation guidelines and not attend work or any public gatherings while ill.  The faculty/staff member cannot return to campus for at least 24 hours after they have been free of fever.

More information regarding the H1N1 flu virus, including symptoms and prevention, can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu. In addition, Neumann University will continue to update all faculty and staff members as more information is made available.

Sincerely,

The Human Resources Office
