Neumann University president Rosalie Mirenda, Ph.D., has been selected to receive the 2012 Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute’s Sourin Award. The award is designed to recognize individuals who have followed the example of Fr. Edward Sourin, founder of the Literary Institute, in dedicating their lives to the day-to-day implementation of the Catholic faith in their business, in their family lives, and in their social activities.
“I cannot think of a better person who represents the qualities sought in this award. Dr. Mirenda models the ideals of this award every day, not only in her work at Neumann, and in her family life, but in her every interaction,” said Jay Devine, chairperson of the Neumann University Board of Trustees. Past recipients of the Award include Justin Cardinal Rigali, Senator Rick Santorum and his wife Karen, Timothy Flanagan, and Cardinal John
P. Foley.
Named as president of Neumann in July of 1996, Dr. Mirenda is committed to the Catholic Franciscan mission of the University. She has enhanced this distinctive identity while leading Neumann through three essential evolutionary steps: transformation to a residential campus, the completion of two campaigns, and the achievement of university status.
Dr. Mirenda serves on several boards and organizations, including the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Board of Education, Drexel Neumann Academy and the Association of Franciscan Colleges and Universities. She has received the Papal Honor of the Cross Pro Ecclesiae from the Vatican, and awards from the Catholic Leadership Institute, the Cathedral of Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul (Keys and Sword Award), and many other organizations.
Dr. Mirenda will receive the award on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
