Developmental Disorders Expert to Speak

James Coplan, M.D., will speak at Neumann University on Tuesday, April 1, about the history of developmental disorders and his professional experience dealing with children and young adults who have been diagnosed with these disorders. His presentation is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre of the Bruder Life Center.

 

Dr. Coplan is an internationally recognized clinician, author and public speaker in the fields of child development, early language development, and autism spectrum disorder. He created the Early Language Milestone Scale (ELM Scale-2), a test of language development for children from birth to 36 months of age. He is the author of Making Sense of Autistic Spectrum Disorders: Create the Brightest Future for Your Child with the Best Treatment Options.

 

Coplan draws upon his personal experience as the sibling of an individual with developmental disabilities, as well as his clinical expertise and academic training, to provide guidance to families of children with special needs and practical, evidence-based recommendations to child-care professionals.

 

The presentation is designed for parents and teachers of children with developmental disabilities; school counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists; autism advocacy and support groups; occupational and behavioral therapists; and first responders, caregivers and social workers.
