Dr. Douglas Turco
Dr. Douglas Turco, director of the Sport and Entertainment Management program, lectured at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) on November 11. His presentation was entitled International Mega Events and the Sport Tourism Nexus.
Located in Jyväskylä, Finland, JAMK is an internationally oriented university with an enrollment of 8000 students. It was rated as the best among universities of applied sciences in 2007. In 2012, the JAMK School of Business and Service Management was awarded the prestigious EPAS accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development. The university also founded Team Academy, the innovative interdisciplinary entrepreneurship program.
Dr. Turco also plans to confer with Sport Business School Finland (SBS Finland) during his trip abroad. SBS Finland is a worldwide leader in sport marketing field research, having conducted studies at the World Ice Hockey Championships, WRC Neste Oil Rally, FIFA World Cup, and UEFA EURO Cup, among others. SBS is a partnership between JAMK and Haaga-Helia University. Turco is an advisor to and has collaborated with SBS Finland on several research projects.
He will lead the spectator field research during the FIFA World Cup 2014, replicating the 2010 FIFA World Cup study in South Africa, where students from Finland contributed to the success of the project. Turco’s plans to team Neumann students with SBS Finland on World Cup research for Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.
