U.S. News and World Report has ranked Neumann University's online bachelor's degree program as one of the best in the country. The 2014 U.S. News Best Online Program rankings, released on January 8, recognized 210 American colleges and universities as offering the best online bachelor's degree programs. Neumann's program ranked 108th in the country and sixth in the state of Pennsylvania.
Criteria used to determine the rankings were student engagement, faculty credentials, peer reputation, and student services and technology. U.S. News collected the data to compile rankings between July and September of 2013.
Neumann has offered degree programs for adults since 1974 and online bachelor's degrees since 2005 through its Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). Degrees in Liberal Studies (BA or BS), Organizational Leadership (BS), and Professional Studies (BS) are available completely online or in the classroom.
"Being recognized as a first-rate program is the result of our uniquely personal academic advising, our exceptional faculty, and our flexible scheduling," explained Dr. Robert Bunnell, interim dean of CAPS.
For each adult applicant, academic advisors in CAPS review the individual’s work history, military experience, career-related training, and portfolio to determine the experience that might transfer to the university as course credit.
Courses in each program are accelerated and incorporate a problem-solving project related to the adult student’s workplace or career interest. Faculty in many courses have professional experience related to the academic area they teach.
In addition, the online format allows individuals to study and conduct research from the comfort of their homes and at times convenient to them.
In compiling the rankings, U.S. News collected statistical information from 283 colleges and universities that reported offering online bachelor’s degree programs.
