Little did Tara Young know that selecting a day care for her four-year-old daughter Sydney would open the door to a new career path and offer the education necessary to get there. From the moment she first came to Neumann College’s Child Development Center, she liked what she saw not only for her daughter, but also for herself.

“I became acquainted with Neumann when my daughter began attending the Child Development Center. I liked how the Neumann College students had the opportunity to interact with the preschoolers. I was really impressed with the overall quality of the program as well as the communal nature that seemed ingrained in the Neumann experience,” Young says.

Her current position is an AP Literature and American Literature teacher at Sun Valley High School. In addition, Tara is also the chairperson of the school’s language arts department. It is her goal to one day become a curriculum coordinator. She enjoys the planning and aligning of goals and objectives in order to support quality instruction.

“The principal program will allow me to coordinate and if I ever decide to become a building principal, I can do that with the certification as well,” she explains.

As a busy working mom with two small daughters, Tara knew exactly the type of graduate program that she needed to be successful. She wanted a college that was close to her home, offered quality instructors, a positive educational environment and a low student/teacher ratio.
“Basically I wanted a small school that leads to big opportunities. When I was looking for a certification program, I looked into Neumann because it is local and I had a favorable experience with the CDC. I was impressed with the course offerings and the flexibility,” she says.

Tara recommends the college to potential students. “I would advise someone considering Neumann to take advantage of the quality instruction and advising available at Neumann. So far, my education has been very individualized and my professional needs have been met. I would say, ‘Take advantage of the opportunities Neumann offers to working professionals, don’t allow yourself to be a student number, get a more personalized education.’”
