Undergraduate Degree : Bachelor of Science, Kinesiology, Temple University

"I love it!" exclaims Lorrie Jackson, a graduate student in Neumann College's Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. "My classes are interesting and the lab experiences are great. I'm getting great insight on how to treat patients with different injuries through therapy and help them progress back to restored function."

Like most graduate PT students, one of the reasons Lorrie selected Neumann is its weekend format that allows her to work and earn a degree. "Since I am paying for my degree, this is important to me." In addition, however, she chose Neumann because it caters to mature working adults in a smaller, more intimate and personalized setting than other programs she researched.

"The students [here] are older and we're able to share work experiences with one another." She also enjoys the personalized learning experience small classes encourage. There's lots of one-on-one with professors which suits her just fine. "Class size is such an advantage. Twenty-four students in a class give me the environment in which I want to be." Lorrie also feels the individual attention from professors is a distinct advantage for students like her. Professors get to know what a student's goals are and what their learning style is. "They even spend time out of class, on their own time, helping you understand something," she says.

Lorrie feels she is getting what she needs to be a successful PT with Neumann's program because it combines both classroom education with lab and clinical experiences. "There are lots of hands-on experiences and clinicals. We learn how to work with patients in actual settings, both outpatient and acute care." Her aim is to help the injured improve their quality of life.

"Someday, I want to own my own physical therapy facility," dreams Lorrie, now a physical therapy aide with Sterling Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Media, PA. She believes Neumann will help achieve this goal and prepare her to be a qualified and experienced physical therapist.
