Carolyn Fauteux feels she really can't ask for much more from her college life these days. She's getting to play ice hockey, the sport she loves, on a competitive team; prepare for a sports-related career; and feel like she's at home, even though she's miles away from her family in Canada. Two years ago, she would have never thought she'd feel this "settled."

A star player on her high school team in Aurora, Ontario, Carolyn was recruited by a Neumann College ice hockey coach. When she visited, she found what she wanted: a chance to play ice hockey on a growing team and a major in sport which blended her interest in sports with business management skills. "I didn't want to be an athletic trainer or a physical therapist," she says. Neumann's sport management program offered her a way to pursue her career aspirations without having to take a heavy science concentration which was "not her strong suit."

The program at Neumann prepares students to move on to challenging and exciting careers in academic settings, professional sports, sports and recreation facilities, as well as health, fitness, and sport clubs "I would like to work for a sports team maybe as a sports information director," she says. "For our sports management classes, we visit other facilities to explore career possibilities."

Even though she is far from her Canadian home and did not know a soul when she arrived on campus, Carolyn says Neumann feels like "home-away-from home." She enjoys the mix of people she has met from areas like Philly, New York, and Canada. "I appreciate the different outlooks and the smallness which allows us to interact and share." She also feels strongly that Neumann is providing her with good learning experiences. "I enjoy being able to balance my sports involvement with academic challenges. The teachers understand and it's easy to enlist their help to catch up if things were missed by sports commitments."

When she returns home, she often has people asking her about Neumann. "I have no hesitation about making a positive recommendation for Neumann. A big part of this College is the sense of community that is fostered here. They make it easy for you to feel like you're a valued member. I'm so happy I came here."
