Scoring a goal on the ice is second nature for Kristin Gauthier who
has played ice hockey for the past 12 years, but scoring with the
college decision-making process is just as important. And she feels
she scored big by coming to Neumann College.
Recruited for Neumann's ice hockey team, Kristin came to Pennsylvania
excited about being part of a growing team with a great chance to
be in an ice hockey championship. Equally exciting, she says, was
being able to get what she needed for her future career success.
"I always knew I wanted to teach and also loved science, but
I preferred being around people and not in a lab." She sees
herself more as a practitioner than a researcher. Combining her
interests, Kristin is pursuing a double major in biology and secondary
education hoping to achieve her career goal: to coach high school
sports and eventually be a head coach. "I feel I made a good
decision to come to Neumann.
I like my classes and I'm really doing well. With an average
of 25 students in my classes, it's easy to relate to teachers
and easy to learn. The teachers here make you feel so appreciated.
They know us by name and are so willing to help."
According to Kristin, the small feel of Neumann that she enjoys
in the classroom also permeates the social atmosphere here. "I
have lived on campus for two years and feel like I know the majority
of people here. When I go to a social gathering, I never feel
awkward or like a stranger." Another aspect she appreciates
here is the Christian atmosphere and spirituality that infuses
the College. The religious events and activities, she feels, "foster
a deep respect for people."
A member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, she feels
strongly that students should be involved at college. "There
are so many opportunities for getting involved here. You can find
almost anything you're interested in. I feel I'm getting what
I need here both academically and socially."
