It was literally by accident that Anthony Lee discovered Neumann College’s athletic training program—a car accident. While going through physical therapy for a back problem caused by a car accident, he talked with his physical therapist about life, school, and his career aspirations. The therapist told him about Neumann’s program in athletic training. After exploring the College and program with his high school guidance counselor, he applied, and without even a single visit, made the decision to attend Neumann.

“One of the main reasons I chose Neumann was because it was one of the few colleges in the area that had the major that I wanted. The other reason was because I received an academic scholarship.” When Anthony attended the College’s open house, he knew he’d made the right decision. He says he felt the small campus exuded a family-oriented spirit, one that made him feel right at home.

Although he wanted to work in the sports environment, Anthony chose athletic training because he did not want a strictly medical field like nursing. “I like helping people. I wanted a career that gave me a way to use my athletic and science interests, yet still allowed me to get satisfaction from helping others.” Neumann’s athletic training program focuses on educating its students in the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of exercise-related injuries, preparing them for careers as athletic trainers in schools or on sports teams. It also provides them the foundation to pursue further study as physical therapists, occupational therapists or physician’s assistants.

Anthony’s career goal is to work for a sports team as an athletic trainer, and then pursue his masters in physical therapy. Eventually, he wants to own his own business and maybe even dabble in real estate. “I want to keep myself open and able to do different things.” He feels Neumann is providing him with a good educational foundation.

An important lesson Anthony’s learned about life through his Neumann experience is that hard work does pay off. He made the dean’s list his first semester. “It was so great having the faculty acknowledge my achievements.” He says college has not been easy and has many distractions. “I have my ups and downs, but things are exciting. I have less free time than ever because I make school my priority. I am trying to show leadership and stay out of trouble. Hopefully, this will pay off. I know I’ve already proven to myself that I can do anything I set my mind to.”
