Criminal justice major Phil Davison has a definite career path carefully laid out in his mind. The blueprints for this plan have been influenced by his Neumann College professors. He chose Neumann based on these professors and the real-life experiences that they bring to the classroom.
“The fact that the program was run by a former FBI agent and the language Farsi was offered , I knew that for criminal justice I’d be best off at Neumann,” he says. “The professors have a lot to offer. All of the professors are teaching off of first hand experiences.”
Farsi is a Middle Eastern language that is commonly used by terrorist groups. Law enforcement agencies recruit new employees with Farsi knowledge and Neumann is one of a few colleges in the area offering this language.
“In my Farsi class there are about four people and we’re going into our fourth semester together. I’m getting a computer program called Rosetta Stone so I can continue my (Farsi) studies,” Phil notes.
Outside of the classroom Phil helps to keep Neumann’s mission of helping others alive and thriving through the campus ministry’s Habit for Humanity program. He has been a volunteer with this outreach ministry for two years and is currently the group leader.
“It’s just something I love doing and it’s a great cause. I just decided to do it because before I was a criminal justice major I was considering architecture. It’s really good being there,” he says.
Phil is helping to build his fourth home with Habit for Humanity. He often attends the open house and dedication ceremony that occurs once the home is ready for occupants. “I get the satisfaction of helping out someone that doesn’t have a home,” he says.
The combination of academic offerings and extra-curricular activities sold Phil on Neumann for his college education and he highly recommends Neumann to other prospective students.
“It’s a great decision to make. Neumann has a lot to offer,” he says.
Phil, who has studied marital arts for the past 10 years and is a third-degree black belt, plans to work for a local police force after graduation. His ultimate career goal is to become an analyst or agent with the FBI.
