Neumann College has proved to be a great fit for Janea Stevens after she “tried on” two other schools before she found what she was looking for. After high school she was planning on attending college in Atlanta, Georgia, but then settled on Delaware County Community College. She always knew that she wanted to become a nurse and while at the community college she kept hearing about the wonderful nursing program at Neumann. It didn’t take long for her to transfer to Neumann and quickly embrace all that the college had to offer.
“I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. I have always been the type of person who wants to help others. I hate to see people do without. I turned to Neumann because Neumann’s nursing program is well acknowledged. The teachers here care. They really want you to make it,” she says.
In addition to maintaining a high G.P.A., Janea, a junior, also works part-time at Riddle Memorial Hospital as an emergency room technician. After graduation she plans to work in critical care.
During her first two years at Neumann, Janea was a residential advisor where she says she learned much about herself and her major.
“It does really correlate with nursing. Being an R.A. is a leadership role. That’s what nursing is like when you have a patient not feeling well. It goes back to the whole thing of helping others. I have learned a lot from Neumann, from leadership skills to knowing myself,” Janea says.
Being a Christian, it became important for Janea to attend a college that would support her beliefs. She finds great comfort in the fact that professors and students turn to God in prayer during their daily lives. “Before our nursing tests we pray, every test, and that’s big to me.”
To Janea, Neumann is unique in many ways but primarily in the caliber of its professors and the quality education that students receive. “The accessibility of the professors makes it very unique. They know your name and when they see you in the hallway they smile and they speak."
