The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) has awarded initial accreditation to the business division at Neumann. Only 12 four-year colleges in the country received initial accreditation in 2005. The ACBSP was founded 17 years ago and has been awarding accreditation for 15 years. It has 394 member institutions and is the only business accrediting organization for both two-year and four-year institutions.

According to Douglas G. Viehland, executive director of the ACBSP, "Neumann College has shown its commitment to teaching excellence by participating in the accreditation process, achieving accreditation, and then continuing the process of quality improvement. This initial accreditation is evidence of Neumann's commitment to quality business programs."

Ardeshir Shahmaei, dean of the business division at Neumann College, noted that the faculty and administration had been working toward ACBSP accreditation for almost two years. "Accreditation from the ACBSP gives our business program a stamp of approval, from an objective organization, about our excellence in teaching and our commitment to students," he said.

For institutions that achieve initial accreditation for their business schools and programs, this attainment certifies that the teaching and learning processes within that institution meet the rigorous educational standards established by the ACBSP. The ratification of initial accreditation by ACBSP covers a ten-year period during which time Neumann College must continually reaffirm its quality through periodic reports.

ACBSP's mission is to establish, promote, and recognize educational practices that contribute to the continuous quality improvement of business education programs, teaching of business courses, and student learning outcomes in colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad. ACBSP is located in Overland Park, Kansas.
