June 17 Conference to Address Ethical Issues
Neumann will host a conference entitled Ethics in the Web of
Life on Saturday, June 17. Sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis
of Philadelphia, the event will address current life issues from
an ethical perspective. Experts in bioethics, health care, science
and theology will discuss topics such as stem cell and genetic research,
environmental respect and protection, care for the dying, and institutional
ethics.
Speakers include Philip Boyle, Ph.D., vice president for ethics
at Catholic Health East; Al Fritsch, SJ, Ph.D., co-founder of the
Center for Science in the Public Interest; Carl Middleton, DM, vice
president for ethics and theology at Catholic Health Initiatives;
Daniel Sulmasy, OFM, director of the Bioethics Institute of New
York Medical College; and Carol Taylor, CSFN, Ph.D., director of
the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University.
The conference, which includes lunch, runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately
3:30 p.m. in the Neumann College Life Center. Brother Sulmasy will
deliver the keynote address at 9:15 a.m. Concurrent workshops are
offered in morning and afternoon sessions. Workshop titles are Care
at Life's Close, Co-Creators of Life, Institutional Integrity, and
Relationships Beyond the Human.
The conference costs $45 per person ($30 with registration before
May 1). The registration deadline is May 30.
