College to Hold 17th Annual Kelly Weekend
Neumann
will hold the 17th annual Brendan P. Kelly Weekend on March 24-26. The celebration
honors the memory of a member of the class of 1987, who died in 1989. Proceeds
of the weekend activities support the Brendan P. Kelly '87 Memorial Fund at the
College.
The festivities begin on Friday, March 24, with a game between
the women's basketball alumni and the current women's team at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m.,
the men's basketball alumni will square off. Admission to the games is free, but
donations will be accepted.
Immediately following the alumni games, a basketball
marathon will begin and run through Sunday, March 26. Teams from the community
can rent court time to enjoy friendly competition and support a worthy cause.
For a contribution of at least $100, individuals or companies can sponsor the
weekend and have their names displayed on 500 t-shirts and other promotional items.
On
Sunday, March 26, the College will host a brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the
Life Center on campus. The brunch is open to the public. Prices are $25 per family,
$10 per adult and $5 per child.
During the past 16 years, Brendan Kelly's
family and friends have raised more than $200,000 for endowed scholarships in
Brendan's memory. The Brendan P. Kelly Scholarship has provided $175,000 in scholarship
aid to 70 students since its inception in 1990. The Kelly Committee is currently
directing fundraising efforts toward naming a new cardiovascular fitness center
on campus in Brendan's memory.
