Three Join Forces for Music Foliage
Three outstanding local artists will present an evening of classical
music entitled Music Foliage on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. The concert
is scheduled for the 300-seat Meagher Theatre in the campus Life Center.
The
concert includes works by Beethoven, Grieg, Arenski, and Tchaikovsky. The performing
artists are pianist Maria Jose Martin, violinist Sylvia Ahramjian, and Romanian
cellist Ovidiu Marinescu.
Martin, a member of the Neumann College faculty,
is a performer with international experience. She has played in Spain, Germany,
Austria, Thailand, and the United States, including performances at Steinway Hall
in New York City and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Martin has also premiered
the work of Spanish women composers in national broadcasts from Madrid. A native
of Spain, she earned her master's degree and doctorate in piano performance from
the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music.
Violinist
Sylvia Ahramjian has been acclaimed for her spirited performances and innovative
programs. A graduate of the Juilliard School, she has performed as soloist with
Delaware and Lancaster Symphonies, as well as the Bucharest Symphony. Ahramjian
is associate professor of violin at West Chester University where she performs
regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1999 and 2000, she taught at Oxford
University as part of the WCU summer program. From 2001-2003, she was invited
to teach summer International Master Classes at Transylvania University in Romania.
Cellist
Ovidiu Marinescu is one of the outstanding musicians of his native Romania. He
has performed at festivals in Luzerne, Bayreuth, Chautauqua, South Bohemia, Orlando
and Brasov. Between 1995 and 2002 Marinescu was a member of Adirondack Ensemble,
a year-around resident group in New York State that founded Adirondack Music Camp.
A member of the West Chester University faculty, he currently leads the WCU Symphony
and the Wilmington Community Orchestra. Recently, Marinescu led the Delaware Chamber
Orchestra in its first tour abroad, performing in the Czech Republic.
