Hello, Neumann: Families Flock to Orientation 2005

A family relaxes on the Bachmann steps before heading off to different Orientation sessions.

The campus picnic was an
old-fashioned cookout.

The campus was buzzing during the last weekend in August as more than 600 new students (525 of them freshmen) arrived for Orientation 2005, a three-day program to introduce them to college life at Neumann. With parents and other family members on hand for the events, the college hosted 1,400 people, who lived and breathed Neumann for an entire weekend.

The smiling faces of current students were
everywhere . . . and always ready to help.

From the moment they moved into the Living and Learning Centers on Friday afternoon, students were immersed in a whirlwind of activities, all designed to familiarize them with the Neumann experience and the challenges of college life. Highlights of the weekend, all organized by the Office of Student Activities, included several Orientation team meetings (with students usually grouped according to major), workshops on topics that ranged from alcohol awareness to Neumann traditions, parent sessions on key Neumann resources and programs, Mass and a prayer service, social events, a campus picnic, and the president's Pace e Bene dinner. Throughout Orientation, the Mission and Ministry unit took advantage of opportunities to spread the word about and to illustrate the theme for the year - hospitality.

She brought shoes, shoes, shoes … and more shoes.

Classes began on August 29, and the Campus Ministry Office offered the entire campus community a chance to reflect on the beginning of a new academic year at an outdoor Mass of the Holy Spirit on September 1.
