Knights Win Division II Eastern Championship

The Neumann roller hockey club defeated its two biggest rivals during the weekend of March 4-5 to win the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championship in Division II. The Knights edged Hofstra University in the ECRHA semifinals, 4-3, and then defeated nemesis SUNY Brockport in the championship tilt, 7-6.

Going into the tournament, all three clubs were ranked in the top five in the country in Division II, with SUNY Brockport holding the #2 spot, Neumann at #3, and Hofstra at #5. The Knights had played SUNY Brockport twice before this season, coming away with one loss and one tie.

In the quarterfinal match, Neumann beat Drexel University, 4-3. The Knights also picked up two additional wins in the round robin games to determine the tournament seedings, beating Drexel, 6-4, and Albany, 7-3. Neumann's 2005-06 season slate now stands at 20-3-2.

Neumann's roller hockey club has appeared in the ECRHA Division II championship match for four straight years. The Knights have won the title twice, in 2004 and 2006.

The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championship tournament is set for April 5-6 in Morrisville, North Carolina.
