Knights Win Division II Eastern Championship
The
Neumann roller hockey club defeated its two biggest rivals during the weekend
of March 4-5 to win the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championship
in Division II. The Knights edged Hofstra University in the ECRHA semifinals,
4-3, and then defeated nemesis SUNY Brockport in the championship tilt, 7-6.
Going
into the tournament, all three clubs were ranked in the top five in the country
in Division II, with SUNY Brockport holding the #2 spot, Neumann at #3, and Hofstra
at #5. The Knights had played SUNY Brockport twice before this season, coming
away with one loss and one tie.
In the quarterfinal match, Neumann beat
Drexel University, 4-3. The Knights also picked up two additional wins in the
round robin games to determine the tournament seedings, beating Drexel, 6-4, and
Albany, 7-3. Neumann's 2005-06 season slate now stands at 20-3-2.
Neumann's
roller hockey club has appeared in the ECRHA Division II championship match for
four straight years. The Knights have won the title twice, in 2004 and 2006.
The
National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championship tournament is set for
April 5-6 in Morrisville, North Carolina.
