Neumann presented its annual Presidential Humanitarian Award to Daniel E. Kennedy, president and chief executive officer of Riddle Health System and Riddle Memorial Hospital, at the College scholarship gala on March 31.

The Presidential Humanitarian Award is given to an individual whose life reflects a commitment to serve humanity; devotion to religious and family values; willingness to take risks in the pursuit of vision; and a demonstrated value for philanthropy and education.

Kennedy led Riddle’s $8 million expansion and renovation program in the 1980s, guided the hospital through corporate reorganization and negotiation with insurance providers in the 1990s, and recently led the Riddle Health System into a corporate affiliation with the Main Line Health System, and the Jefferson Health System.

He currently serves on the boards of Elwyn Institute and the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council, and on the regional policy board of the American Hospitals Association. He is president of the Community Youth Soccer Association in West Chester and a member of many community organizations, including the Neumann College planning committee, and the quality review board of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania.

A graduate of the University of Scranton and Temple University, Kennedy has been with Riddle Memorial Hospital since 1979. He was appointed President and CEO in 2001. Prior to joining Riddle, he was an administrator at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital.

Previous recipients of the Neumann College Presidential Humanitarian Award include U.S. attorney Patrick L. Meehan, Esq., former Eagles general manager Jim Murray, television anchor Pat Ciarrocchi, Doctors Gino and Mary Longo Papola, the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, and developer Pierce and Mary Keating.
