Neumann to Offer Adult Programs in Phoenixville
MS in Education, Certificate in Intelligence Studies start in September
Neumann College has signed a letter of intent as the first partner committing to offer programs at the new Phoenixville Educational Campus in Chester County.
“The intent from Neumann is strong evidence that our idea to develop a new educational facility to bring various schools into one place to serve what is one of the top 100 fastest growing areas in the country is a good one,” said Marian Moskowitz, who is leading the development of the 220,000 square-foot facility.
“The Phoenixville area is ready for additional educational opportunities,” said Dr. Rosalie M. Mirenda, president of Neumann College. “We intend to offer high-quality programs, competitive tuition, and convenient scheduling to adult and graduate students in Chester and Montgomery Counties.”
Neumann will launch two programs at the Phoenixville Educational Campus in the fall, pending Middle States approval of the site: the master’s degree in education and its unique certificate program in intelligence studies. Additional programs could follow in 2008.
According to Dennis Murphy, vice president for enrollment management at Neumann, “We have already begun recruiting for the MS in education program, and we will start our communication campaign about intelligence studies very soon.”
Designed for classroom teachers or those who would like to become teachers, the Neumann master’s degree in education focuses on applying cutting-edge instructional theories to practical situations that teachers encounter every day. The program assists teachers in meeting Act 48 mandates for professional preparation, and it offers MS plus certificate options for early childhood, elementary, secondary and special education.
The intelligence studies certificate program consists of courses in topics such as terrorism, intelligence analysis, Farsi, organized crime, money laundering, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. The program, which can be completed within 18 months, prepares adult learners for jobs and new careers in intelligence analysis with law enforcement agencies as well as positions that involve problem-solving and analytical thinking in private industry and other types of organizations.
The Phoenixville Education Campus is convenient to both commuters and borough residents alike without causing traffic problems. It is in close proximity to Routes 422, 113, 23, 29, 202 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. There will be parking for some 200 cars.
Developers Marian and David Moskowitz had acquired the former Polychem building on the north side of Phoenixville and formed Palma Inc. to develop the building into an educational “mall” that could house a variety of universities, colleges, career schools or other educational providers. The facility will include common technology, food service and other infrastructure. Students could benefit from fitness center, child care center, lounges and other common areas in the building.
“We have been meeting with many local officials and educational organizations to explain our vision,” Moskowitz explained. “U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach was instrumental in bringing together ten potential tenants for a meeting in January, which was extremely helpful. This project could have major economic impact resulting from more workforce development and career enhancement opportunities for our residents.I hope people will respond positively to Neumann’s pioneering spirit.”
