Students to Host Concert for Piano Fund
Music students at the College are staging a concert to raise funds toward the purchase of a new grand piano for the Meagher Theatre. The show is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m.
The current grand piano has been on the College stage since the theater was built in the mid-1980s, and the instrument is central to the arts at Neumann. Eight performing arts groups, including the Delaware County Symphony and International Ballet Classique, use it in dozens of performances throughout the year. Students who study voice and piano, as well as those who volunteer in campus ministry, also use the piano to stage recitals and liturgies every semester.
The concert will feature students, faculty and alumni, performing works of classical and contemporary composers. Art and photography students will exhibit their work in a gallery space adjacent to the theater. Students in the communication arts program will provide technical support for the show.
“Broad collaboration among faculty, students and alumni makes this event especially unique,” explained Maria Jose Martin, associate professor of music at Neumann. “I’m very pleased that students are demonstrating a commitment to use their talents to make a difference.”
General admission to the concert is $15. For more information on the event and how to support the piano fund, call 610-558-5528.
