Singing City Offers Seasonal Songs
Singing City, one of Philadelphia’s premier musical groups, will perform at the College on Thursday, December 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the campus Life Center. Known for presenting songs of all kinds in a witty and poignant manner, the choir will offer a mix of contemporary and seasonal selections at the concert.
Founded in 1948, the group was born out of the Fellowship House movement, which believed that differences between races, religions, and cultures could be bridged by ordinary people coming together in shared activities. The choir's mission continues to include choral performance at the highest levels, community involvement and educational outreach. The group performs not only in concert halls, but also in homeless shelters and nursing homes in and around Philadelphia.
Singing City has performed throughout the United States and in Cuba, Israel, Jordan, Northern Ireland, and Russia. Its goal is to be an artistic, social and spiritual force, bringing people together through choral music.
The program is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Forum, one of eight groups that comprise the Arts Guild at the College. Other organizations are Center Stage Productions, the Delaware County Symphony, International Ballet Classique, the College Concert Chorale, the College Jazz Band, the College Theater Ensemble, and Stages of Imagination Children’s Theater.
General admission is $7. The lecture is free for Forum members. Immediately following the seminar, all are welcomed to enjoy light refreshments and conversation in the Great Hall. For more information and to reserve tickets, call 610-558-5626.
