Piano and Vocals, en Francais

On Friday, May 9, faculty members Maria Traub and Meegan Jesse will perform a program of French music that includes works by Berlioz, Bizet, Debussy and other master composers. Pianist Maria Jose Martin, another faculty member, will accompany the two vocalists. The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Bruder Life Center.

Traub has performed in the Philadelphia area for the past 20 years. She has sung at the Cosmopolitan Club, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Union League. In similar venues, she has performed in France, Italy, Martinique, and Romania. A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, she is currently associate professor of French and Italian.

Jesse earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from West Chester University and a master’s degree in the same field from Westminster Choir College. She has performed with Center Stage Opera Company, Amici Opera Company, and the Intermezzo Young Artists program. A new member of the music faculty, she has sung with the Dresden Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic.

Martin has played in both solo and chamber recitals in Spain, Germany, Austria, Thailand, and the United States (including Steinway Hall and the Kimmel Center). She currently performs in a piano duo with Christopher Bradshaw and has premiered numerous instrumental chamber pieces by women composers. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory, she teaches piano at Neumann.

To give the recital an even more international flavor, Qing Yang, director of the Qing Yang Dance Studio, will perform traditional Chinese dances.

General admission is $8. The cost for students and seniors is $5.
