Fourth Annual LCYS Awards to Honor Area Coaches

Neumann will present its fourth annual awards for Leadership in Catholic Youth Sport on May 20. The College is currently accepting nominations for these awards in three categories: elementary-level coaching (grades 1-8), secondary-level coaching (grades 9-12) and lifetime achievement. The coaching awards are open to coaches of CYO or school teams. The deadline for nominations is March 24.

The awards recognize leaders who have had a positive impact upon young athletes who play on teams sponsored by Catholic organizations in the Allentown, Camden and Wilmington dioceses and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The coaching awards will acknowledge two people (one elementary-level and one secondary-level coach) who model behavior reflective of Catholic teachings and encourage the youth athletic experience to include opportunities for learning character development, good sportsmanship and spiritual formation. The lifetime achievement honoree will be a courageous leader who espouses Catholic values and who has positively influenced youth sports by creating, fostering and supporting an environment that includes spiritual growth and character development.

A nomination form can be found HERE.

The Center for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development and the Sport Management program at Neumann College are co-sponsoring the awards. Founded in 1999, the Center is dedicated to promoting the inherent power of good in sports and to using sports as a vehicle for spiritual, ethical and emotional growth. The Sport Management program, part of the Neumann curriculum since 1998, is business-based and prepares undergraduate and graduate students for careers in sports marketing, finance, event management, and athletic and recreation administration.

“There are hundreds of people in this region who teach positive values and embody good sportsmanship every day,” says Ed Hastings, director of the Center. “These awards are meant to generate greater awareness of their outstanding contributions.”

Complete nomination forms should be submitted by March 24 to Lee DelleMonache, Neumann College, One Neumann Drive, Aston, PA  19014. For more information on the awards, contact DelleMonache at 610-358-4581 or DELLEMONL@neumann.edu.
