Neumann to serve Phoenixville this Fall
Information session set for September 6

Neumann College will offer two programs for adult students at Franklin Commons, a new educational center in Phoenixville, starting in September.

By launching programs this fall, Neumann will be the first college to open at the new Phoenixville facility.  The College will offer the master’s degree in education and its distinctive certificate program in intelligence studies. Additional programs could follow in 2008.

Neumann will hold an information session at Franklin Commons, located at 400 Franklin Avenue on the north side of Phoenixville, on Thursday, September 6, at 6 p.m. Classes will start the following week.

“The intent from Neumann is strong evidence that our idea to develop a new educational facility to bring various schools into one place to serve what is one of the top 100 fastest growing areas in the country is a good one,” said Marian Moskowitz, who is leading the development of the 220,000 square-foot facility.

“The Phoenixville area is ready for additional educational opportunities,” said Dr. Rosalie M. Mirenda, president of Neumann College.  “We intend to offer high-quality programs, competitive tuition, and convenient scheduling to adult and graduate students in Chester and Montgomery counties.”

Designed for classroom teachers or those who would like to become teachers, the Neumann master’s degree in education focuses on applying cutting-edge instructional theories to practical situations that teachers encounter every day. The program assists teachers in meeting Act 48 mandates for professional preparation, and it offers MS plus certificate options for early childhood, elementary, secondary and special education.

The intelligence studies certificate program consists of courses in topics such as terrorism, intelligence analysis, organized crime, money laundering, drug smuggling, and human trafficking.  The program, which can be completed within 18 months, prepares adult learners for jobs and new careers in intelligence analysis with law enforcement agencies as well as positions that involve problem solving and analytical thinking in private industry.

Because of access from major highways, Franklin Commons is convenient to both commuters and borough residents. It is in close proximity to Routes 422, 113, 23, 29, 202 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. There will be free parking for 150 cars.

Developers Marian and David Moskowitz acquired the former Polychem building on the north side of Phoenixville last year and formed Palma Inc. to develop the building into an educational “mall” that could house a variety of universities, colleges, charter schools, child care centers or other educational providers. The building will include a commissary, and future plans could include a fitness center, lounges and other common areas.

“We have been meeting with many local officials and educational organizations to explain our vision,” Mrs. Moskowitz explained. “This project could have major economic impact because of the workforce development and career enhancement opportunities for our residents. I hope people will respond positively to Neumann’s pioneering spirit.”
