Students from The Institute for Student Leadership Formation
Here at Neumann University, we are privileged to have a formal leadership development and formation program open to all students.
The Institute for Student Leadership Formation exists “to create opportunities and teach transferable skills to students so that they may contribute courteously to our ever changing world as ethical leaders. Supported by Franciscan values, the program is holistic and built on the philosophy of servant leadership.”
It is readily recognized that in our present day economy, it is no longer enough to be competent in a chosen field. Employers are seeking those who have developed leadership skills and attributes. The Institute provides students with the opportunity to excel in the area of leadership formation.
Successful graduation from the Institute requires completion of four academic semesters and an integration retreat. Each semester begins with a Leadership Conference. Topics included but are not limited to, Principles of Servant Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership for the Business World and Civility in Discourse. University personnel as well as outside experts in the field of leadership expand the students’ perspectives on what it means to be a global leader for the 21st Century.
As follow-up work during the semesters, student leaders complete modules or cluster groups to apply their learning from concepts presented at the Conference. All students in a leadership position at Neumann are required to participate. However, the Institute accepts applications from other students as well.
Furthermore, Juniors and Seniors in good standing may apply for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, the prestigious National Leadership Honors Society.
