Karate Club

The Neumann Karate Club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Schmidt Room LLC#1 and the Wellness Center LLC#3 during the College semester and on Saturday evenings between 3pm and 4pm at the Rocky Run YMCA. Informal training sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays in preparation for testing and tournaments.

The club's sensei (teacher), Nyles Gray, has been practicing Shotokan since 1972. Sensei Gray holds "nidan" or 2nd degree black belt.  Although Sensei Gray has not tested since 1978, he has consistently trained and has lived the life of a true martial artist for more than 33 years. He regularly participates in the I.S.K.F. Instructor training program under Sensei Teruyuki Okazaki, head of the International Shotokan Karate Federation. Sensei Gray is an impassioned advocate of the martial arts as a path to physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

A uniform will be needed for testing, and once a student has passed an exam the uniform (gi) must be worn at every training. Ranks earned are ISKF ranks and are recognized in every ISKF club in the world.
