Karate Courses
Karate
and Physical Development (PE213 – 1, 2, or 3 credits) View syllabus 
The
course is an introduction to the world of martial arts that gives the beginning
student a basic understanding in the physical aspect of karate, which includes
basic techniques in self-defense. Some of the unique features of
this course are that it gives the beginning student a basic understanding of
what karate IS and what it IS NOT. In addition, karate
training develops coordination, flexibility, timing, muscle tone, speed,
strength and confidence. Karate training also improves your
cardio-vascular system and promotes weight loss.

Karate
& Spirituality (PE226A – 3 credits) View syllabus 
The
course is an introduction to the martial arts (Karate-do) and how it fosters
the traits of courage, courtesy, integrity, humility, and self-control in those
who have found its essence. The student will explore this art, a mastery of
its techniques, a polishing of its virtues to make them the inner light to
guide one’s daily actions. Karate-do has been considered to be the most
suitable of the many martial arts in leading to fulfillment of the need for
training of the spirit.
