Access to a personal computer with Internet capability and Microsoft Office compatible software is required for many courses at Neumann. You may use a computer in one of the University's computer labs, a family computer or a friend's, but we recommend that each student have their own computer meeting the following specifications:
Minimum and Recommended configuration:
Processor: speed of at least 400 MHz; 1 GHz or better is recommended.
RAM: at least 256 Mb of RAM; 1 GB or more is recommended
Sound: A working sound card and speakers are useful. Some programs require a headset & microphone.
Modem: For online programs, a 56 Kbps modem can be used. A high-speed connection such as DSL or cable modem is recommended.
Disk Drive: A CD- or DVD-Rom drive is useful for software installation and program materials. A DVD/RW is recommended for media production courses.
Monitor: minimum 800 x 600 resolution is required; 1024 x 768 or better recommended.
Disk Space: 10 GB of disk space minimum; 60 GB or more recommended.
Networking: 10/100 Mb Ethernet adapter; WiFi wireless for laptops
Software: MS Office 2007 is the standard productivity suite on campus.
Note:
Earlier versions of MS Office are acceptable with the free Office Compatibility Pack.
Open source and commercial suites (Open Office, Lotus Symphony, Corel Office Suite) can generally produce acceptable documents, but are not supported by the Neumann University Help Desk.
The latest MS Office can be purchased inexpensively; see: Information on computer and software purchases.
