Academic Service Learning is a concrete expression of Neumann's mission
as a Catholic college in the Franciscan tradition. In its Mission Statement,
Neumann claims "knowledge while valuable in itself, is to be used in
the service of others." The Service-Learning experience, coordinated
by the Career Development Office, is unique in that it integrates classroom
learning with community- based service. These community partnerships support

social, ethical, intellectual and civic development, as well
as provide an increased awareness of one's social responsibility. As a result,
students become active rather than passive learners while connecting their
academic experience with community-based activities. The reflection component
of Service-Learning invites students to consider their service experiences
in light of Catholic social thought and the Franciscan worldview.
