Maria Sotomayor, a sophomore psychology major from Broomall, Pennsylvania, came to Neumann knowing that she wanted to reach out and help others during her college years. She is involved with the University’s ministry center and participates in various events.
“When I was looking at Neumann, I saw the values here which were the same as the ones that my family has. That was very important to me. I really relate to integrity, service, and leadership, especially service because I like doing things that help people,” she explained.
Maria started a club at Neumann University called “Fashion for a Cause,” which is intended to use the runway to bring out the best in people. This club is designed for students who are interested in fashion and would like to help charitable organizations. The group held its first fashion show in the spring of 2011 and proceeds went to Mommy’s Light – which supports children who have lost their mothers.
“I’ve learned a lot since I’ve been here, especially leadership. In high school I would have never started a club like I did here at Neumann.”
