Internship Program for Academic Credit

An internship provides students the opportunity to gain professional work experience prior to graduation, a necessity in today’s job market. Typically, a student works a minimum of 150 hours at the internship site to earn three academic credits. The student also attends an on-campus internship course during the semester in which the student interns. Internships may be paid or unpaid.

To attain academic credit for an internship, you MUST do the following:

  1. Attend one of the 30-minute pre-internship workshops
  2. After you secure your internship, log in to your Handshake account and under Career Center, click on the Experience menu option to provide information about your internship. Select “Request an Experience.”
  3. You will receive an email either approving or declining your experience request. If your experience is approved, download the "Internship Site Agreement" from the Experience section of your account.
  4. Have it signed by your site supervisor, then scan and upload into your Handshake account within 7 days of this approval email. Upload the signed site agreement into your account under Career Center>Experiences>View Details>Add Attachment.
  5. When the form is complete, your prerequisite will be satisfied and you will be able to register for the appropriate internship course.
  6. You You must enroll in an internship course in order to obtain credit for your experience.
