How often is Commencement held?
Neumann University schedules one Commencement Ceremony which is held each May. However, there are three graduation dates during the academic year [August, December, and May].

Who is eligible to walk in the May Commencement exercises?
To be eligible to walk in May Commencement exercises and receive your diploma:

- You must complete the Application for Graduation in the Registrar’s Office

- You must successfully complete all degree requirements. If you do not satisfactorily complete all of their degree requirements by the end of the spring semester you may not, under any circumstance, participate in Commencement exercises

- You must satisfy all financial obligations to the University by April 26

- You must complete the financial aid exit interview if you have any federal loans at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action by April 26

- If you received an HRSA Nursing Loan you must contact Financial Assistance to complete the loan exit requirements by April 26

- All undergraduates only must complete the First-Destination Survey available in April

When do I receive my diploma?
Students who have successfully completed all their degree requirements by the conclusion of either Summer Session II in August or at the conclusion of the fall semester in December may receive their diploma after they have been certified for graduation by the Registrar. August and December graduates who have already received their diplomas, but who wish to participate in the May Commencement ceremony are encouraged to do so . . . but . . . must notify the Registrar's Office by April 26, 2017.


All May candidates for graduation are expected to attend the University's May Commencement ceremony and will receive their diplomas that day.

How many guests can I bring?
Graduates are encouraged to invite their families to share in the excitement and honor of the day. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Seats cannot be reserved. Live-streaming is also provided in seating areas within the Bachmann Building for additional overflow. See response to question above (What if it rains on the day of graduation?) for additional information should inclement weather require the University to move the Commencement exercises indoors.

How are Graduation Honors determined?
A baccalaureate degree with honors is awarded to students who have earned a minimum of 60 academic credits, excluding documented prior learning, at Neumann University and who have demonstrated superior academic achievement in their respective areas of study.

 

Summa cum laude is awarded to those students with a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) from 3.900 to 4.000

 

Magna cum laude is awarded to those students with a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) from 3.700 to 3.899

 

Cum laude is awarded to those students with a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) from 3.500 to 3.699

 

Students who anticipate receiving Graduation Honors, and have completed 60 credits at Neumann, excluding documented prior learning, can check their WebAdvisor account to verify a cum GPA of 3.50 or above.

How is the Valedictorian selected?
The Valedictorian is a graduating senior whose entire academic program has been completed at Neumann University on a full-time basis, and whose cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) is the highest in his/her class. The student’s involvement in leadership activities at the University and his/her community service are also considered in the selection process.


With regard to these eligibility criteria, students who have earned credits through either standardized examinations or through the University-sponsored evaluations listed below and who have, otherwise, completed all academic coursework at Neumann University are still eligible for Valedictorian consideration.

Is there anything that might prevent me from graduating?
To graduate, you must

- Have applied for graduation at the Registrar’s Office

- Satisfy all outstanding balances by April 26.

- If you borrowed federal direct loan funds, you must complete an exit interview at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action no later than April 26th

-  If you borrowed an HRSA Nursing Loan Nursing Loans you must contact Financial Assistance to complete the loan exit interview by April 26

- You must complete the First-Destination Survey available April 18 (Undergraduates ONLY) by April 26

What if I choose not to participate in the Commencement exercises?
If you elect not to walk with your Class please SEND AN E-MAIL to Judy Wynes at wynesj@neumann.edu stating that you will not be attending and indicate whether you would like to pick up your diploma or have it mailed to your home. Please include the last four digits of your social security number.


Deadline: April 30, 2017.

How do I get my cap and gown?
Caps and gowns can be ordered during the Grad Fair on Wednesday February 22, between 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. or Thursday, February 23 between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Mirenda Center. Graduates who cannot attend the Fair can visit www.herffjones.com/college/neumann to order their caps and gowns.


Caps and gowns will be distributed in the Mirenda Center on Thursday, April 27.   Late cap and gown orders will also be taken at this time. If you cannot attend the cap and gown pick-up, you may pick them up in the University Store after April 28th during regular store hours; The University Store is open Monday - Thursday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm and on Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

What times are Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement?
The Baccalaureate Mass is scheduled to begin at 9:30  a.m. in the Mirenda Center. All graduates and their families are welcome to attend this wonderful event. The Commencement exercises are at 12:30 p.m. on the South Drive Lawn.

What provisions are made for elderly or handicapped attendees?
With regard to Baccalaureate Mass, elderly or handicapped persons may be dropped off at the side entrance of the Mirenda Center before 9:30 a.m.


For Commencement, elderly or handicapped persons may be dropped off by the Child Development Center before 12:00 noon (please follow signs to drop off point).

Will the Bookstore be open on the day of graduation?
The University Bookstore will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

What if it rains on the day of graduation?
Weather permitting, we will hold the graduation ceremony outside on the South Drive lawn (lawn between the Convent and University).  In case of heavy rain, the ceremony will be moved inside to The Mirenda Center.  The admission tickets for inclement weather will be distributed when you pick up your cap and gown on April 27th.  These tickets will be used in case of inclement weather and the need to move the ceremony inside.  No tickets will be needed if the ceremony is conducted outside.  Guests that do not have a rain ticket for the ceremony are encouraged to join us in locations on campus to view the live streaming of the ceremony.
