Project C.U.R.E. is the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies, equipment, and services to doctors and nurses in more than 135 countries. This is no easy feat. The only way we can make it happen is through the help and support of those also willing to get involved — from volunteering to donating, you can help us make a difference.

Project C.U.R.E. Philadelphia needs passionate, service-minded individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and lend a helping hand to help sort and package medical supplies, stock donated medical supplies, prepare for shipments, and load containers. We welcome both individual and group volunteers.

The mission of Community Warehouse Project of Chester County is to provide household goods and furnishings to Chester County families and individuals in need – at no charge.

Furniture banks prevent tens of thousands of pounds of furniture from entering landfills each year. This furniture gets put back into its community where it can have a second chance at life. Generous furniture donors can rest easy knowing that their furniture is being used by a family in need who cannot afford furniture instead of rotting in a landfill where it is no use to anyone.

CRC Volunteers come from all walks of life, and our opportunities for you to get involved are similarly diverse.  Whether you prefer to get outside and get dirty or work indoors, we have space for whatever help you can give.  Our Volunteers work with our Streams Cleanups, our Tree Plantings, our Invasive Removals and Plant Maintenance, our Event support, our Office Administrative assistance, and our Committees.

We are a group of neighbors and friends working to build a stronger, more resilient future for all of us in the Greater Media Area. Like you, we are concerned about the rising costs of living, climate change, access to healthy food and water, and living in a way that reduces our impact on the planet. We recognize that our government and institutions can’t adequately address all these concerns and that it is up to us, as a community, to strengthen our local economy and to keep ourselves and our families happy and healthy.

Transition efforts are designed to help our community become more self-sufficient, economically and socially vibrant, and enriched through a personal connection.

The mission of Christ in the City is rooted in drawing it’s participants into an intimate relationship with Jesus, touching what it means to be human: being loved by God in the midst of our own poverty and being called to love those around us in the midst of their own poverty.

Through this process, missionaries are better equipped to grow during their time with us and thrive as emerging leaders who return to their communities with a profound and mature faith. They return home with the skills to form others in service and to evangelize our culture and society.

The underlying need for the homeless to overcome their situation, and sustain real change, is the need for healthy relationships: our deepest human need.   It’s OUR vision that every city has, not only soup kitchens and shelters, but communities who are committed to helping the homeless know that they have a home in us. And what is home but a small taste of Christ’s infinite love? In many ways, we are all starving to be truly seen, known, and loved.  There are so many ways to join us in this mission, we’re glad you’re here!

In 1971 a group of people from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia began the work of feeding children and those in need.  It was called the Cardinal’s Commission on Human Relations’ Community Food Program.  The Community Food Program was responsible for the pickup and distribution of the collected food to 30 area food cupboards.  As the need for emergency food continued to increase, the Community Food Program created a year-round calendar of food collection opportunities to meet growing needs.

The Community Food Program challenges all people to make a difference to others in the community experiencing a food emergency by raising awareness about the needs of people in our area and inviting people to put their concern into action by organizing food collections.  NDS continues today to distribute food equaling over 2,000,000 meals to over 50 feeding sites throughout the five-county Philadelphia area.

Our mission is to honor life and offer comfort to individuals facing a life-limiting illness by supporting patients and their families with compassion and dignity. We have an excellent care team which includes physicians, Registered Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, social workers, chaplains, bereavement coordinators, and volunteers.  Our volunteers are an awesome extension of the care we provide to our patients. Our volunteers provide many types of patient support, including:

  • Patient Companionship
  • Pet Therapy
  • Music Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Veteran – to – Veteran Companionship
  • Angel/Vigil Volunteers (sitting bedside during the patient’s final hours)

Requirements for volunteering include:

  • Interview
  • Background check (cost covered by Compassus)
  • Two-step PPD test (cost covered by Compassus)
  • Comprehensive education topics:
    • Overview of Hospice
    • Medical Aspects of Hospice (what diseases will I see, how often will I visit patients, what can I expect?)
    • Dementia
    • Spiritual Review - Is there a difference between being religious and being spiritual?
    • Death, Dying, Grief, and Bereavement
    • Communication Skills for the Hospice Volunteer
    • The Volunteer’s Role
    • Guidelines for the Compassus Volunteer

Compeer of Suburban Philadelphia is a community-based volunteer program providing opportunities for mutual friendships that offer support and life-enriching experiences for individuals living with mental health challenges.

Compeer of Suburban Philadelphia’s mission is to improve the quality of life and health of people managing mental illness. Compeer volunteers provide support, friendship and mentoring during an individual’s recovery process.

Compeer matches people actively participating in mental health treatment with community volunteers, many of whom are in mental health recovery themselves, or have a family member in recovery.  These one-on-one friendships, along with group activities, are designed to maximize community connections and remove stigma.

There are several different types of opportunities available:

  •  Compeer 1:1 friendship -- The goal of the Compeer program is to provide a one-to-one volunteer relationship for people with a mental health diagnosis. This friendship “match” meets at least four hours a month to participate in social and community activities like lunch, shopping, walks, or ball games.
  • Compeer Calling Buddy -- Compeer Calling volunteers may not feel comfortable or be able to volunteer for a one-to-one match, so they make weekly telephone calls to people on our waiting list to offer them a “phone connection” until a one-to-one volunteer is found for them.
  • Compeer E-Buddies -- E-Buddy is for individuals who would prefer to communicate through text, messaging, and/or email.
Volunteer opportunities with Compeer vary and fit into any schedule. Let us know how you would like to get involved. If you or any of your staff members have any questions about the program, please contact us by email at olga@compeerfriends.org or by phone at 610-541-0790. Please visit our website at www.compeerfriends.org for more information or to obtain a volunteer application.

At Junior Achievement we believe in "possible." Each day, we work to help young people discover what’s possible in their lives. We do this by helping them connect what they learn in school with life outside the classroom. We let them know it’s possible to invest in their future, to gain a better understanding of how the world works, and to pursue their dreams. We show them that it’s possible for tomorrow to be a better day. Two locations nearby!

Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those that can afford to play sports and those that cannot, and the prominent role the cost of sporting goods was playing in that gap.

After working in youth sports, college athletics and professional football, our founder, Max Levitt, realized the volume of equipment that goes to waste from elementary school aged kids all the way up to our professional sports franchises.  In response, he decided to develop essentially a food bank for sports equipment.
