Orientation and First Year Course Preference Survey


How will I know I am registered for orientation? 
When you register for orientation you will receive an immediate electronic response confirming your registration which includes the information you entered on the Orientation Registration and First Year Course Preference Survey. Shortly after that, we will send you an email confirming the dates of your orientation session. Be sure to bring the registration confirmation with you to check-in.

Is there a fee for students to attend orientation? 
Your fee is included with your tuition and fees.

Is there a fee for parents/guardians to attend orientation?
Yes, there is a $20 fee per parent/guardian to attend orientation.
There is a limit of two guests per registered student. 

Where do I check in for orientation?
Check-in will be in the Mirenda Center for Sport, Spirituality, and Character Development.

When should students and parents/guardians plan to arrive and depart? 
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on day one. The parent program ends in the evening on day one. The student program ends ends in the early afternoon on day two.  

Are meals served during orientation? 
Meals are provided during the program.

Where do students stay while at orientation? 
Students stay on campus overnight in the University's residence halls whether they plan to be a resident or commuter in the fall. Students will be assigned roommates for the orientation program. There is no fee for students to reside on campus during their orientation session. 

What should students bring with them to orientation? 
There are several items you should bring to orientation:
Toiletries, shower shoes, and towels;
a school supply item to donate.

How should we dress?
Dress is casual, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a sweatshirt or light jacket as air conditioned rooms can get chilly.

Can parents/guardians stay on campus during orientation? 
Yes. Even though the parent orientation program ends on day one, we recognize that parents may want to stay overnight. There is a $35 per person, per night fee to stay in the residence halls. Linens will be provided. You will need to bring towels, shower shoes, and toiletries. This fee is payable at check-in with cash or check. A listing of hotels close to the campus are listed on the Orientation website as well.

When do first year students arrive to begin fall semester? 
New first year and transfer resident and commuter students arrive on campus Thursday, August 23. More detailed information regarding the move-in process and Welcome Back activities will be provided during your orientation session. Move-in is scheduled for Thursday, August 23. Classes begin Monday, August 27.

How do I change my orientation session if I accidentally registered for the wrong one? 
To change the session you registered for, contact the Office of the Dean of Students by emailing or calling 610-558-5608.

Can I change anything on my First Year Course Preference Form after I submit it? 
Yes - To change any information you provided on your First Year Course Preference Survey please contact Office of Academic Advising at

Can I register a parent(s)/guardian(s) after I already completed my registration? 
Definitely, just contact the Office of the Dean of Students by emailing or calling 610-558-5608. Please include the name of the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) attending orientation in the e-mail or message.

What if I need to arrive prior to or depart after my scheduled orientation session? 
Students and/or parents/guardians can arrive early or depart after their scheduled orientation session. Residence hall rooms are available for this purpose at a $35 per night, per person payable by cash or check at check-in. Please contact the Office of the Dean of Students by emailing or calling 610-558-5608 to make the necessary arrangements.     

Is parking available on campus during Orientation? 
Yes. Free parking is available on campus during your orientation visit. If you are driving to campus plan to enter campus from the Convent Road entrance. Orientation parking is located off the Convent Road entrance, next to the Bruder Life Center, the Bachmann Main Building and across from the Mirenda Center for Sport, Spirituality and Character Development.

What if I am taking public transportation to Orientation?
The SEPTA 114 bus brings you right to our campus and the University shuttle can pick you up upon request at the Elwyn Train Station. For pickup assistance please call 610-558-5608.
