ALPHA OMEGA NU CHAPTER

Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), the International Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society, was established January 1, 1985, following several months of planning by representatives of the Counselor Education training program at Ohio University and leaders in the U.S. counseling profession. The impetus for forming an international honor society in counseling included a desire to provide recognition for outstanding academic achievement as well as outstanding service within the counseling profession. At Neumann University, the Alpha Omega Nu (AONu) chapter of Chi Sigma Iota is open to students and alumni of the Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s degree program. The chapter initiates new members and installs future officers in the spring semester. Invitation to membership in AONu is extended to students who “have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on a scale of 4.0 and are deemed promising for endorsement as a professional counselor whose ethical judgment and behavior will be exemplary” Article 4.1: CSI bylaws. Service, education, and outreach are integral to the chapter. Every year, the focus of a service project is voted on by members. Past projects include community garden volunteer work and stress management workshops for undergraduate students.
