Frequently Asked Questions

A learning management system (LMS) is an interactive software application or web-based technology used to create and deliver content, monitor student participation and assess student performance.
Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by learning institutions, educators, and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement.

The structure of an online classroom varies. It can be synchronous, asynchronous or a combination of the two. Generally, online students regularly log in to a learning management system, or LMS, a virtual portal where they can view the syllabus and grades; contact professors, classmates and support services; access course materials; and monitor their progress on lessons.

It depends on the class. If the class is asynchronous, students do not have a scheduled meeting time.

If the online course is offered in a hybrid or synchronous format, there may be in-person components.

Students may complete team-building activities, network and attend informational sessions. Especially in health fields like nursing, certain online programs may require working in a clinical setting.

Students have the opportunity to interact by submitting course work, posting to discussion forums or through group work assigned. Student interaction expectations are explained on the syllabus.

According to US News & World Report, students report spending 15 to 20 hours a week on their coursework. However, this can vary depending on the workload. A better indicator of the amount of time it will take to complete the coursework is six hours a week for every credit hour. This estimate includes time to view course materials and time to work on assignments.

Online courses at Neumann can run between 8 weeks to a full semester.

Typical assignments can include but are not limited to discussions, research papers, quizzes, proctored exams, group projects, and presentations.

Online proctoring is offered through Respondus.
