Information for Prospective Transfer Nursing Students

To prepare you for success in our Nursing program, the Office of Admissions at Neumann University evaluates your transfer credits and Allied Science coursework to ensure a strong foundation. To qualify for transfer admission, applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 and an Allied Science GPA of 3.0.

Additional prerequisite, course repeat, and admission requirements apply. Review the sections below for complete details, including requirements for applicants who previously attended another nursing program.

Planning your schedule? Both BSN tracks include daytime clinical practicums, including the part-time evening track.

Admission and Program Requirements

  • Cumulative Allied Science GPA: You must achieve a cumulative Allied Science GPA of 3.0 or higher. Only courses with a grade of C+ or higher (lecture and corresponding lab) will be reviewed toward meeting this criterion.
  • Grade Culmination Note: While a C+ is the minimum acceptable grade for individual course review, earning C+ grades alone will not meet admission criteria—your total Allied Science GPA must culminate in a 3.0 or higher overall.
  • Retake Policy: You may repeat one Allied Science course and its lab to improve your Allied Science GPA. Only the first retake attempt will be reviewed.

Note: Allied Science GPA requirements apply whether coursework is completed directly at Neumann University or transferred from another regionally accredited institution.

Allied Science Courses (with Labs)

  • Anatomy & Physiology with Lab (4 credits) equivalent to NU’s BIO 130 with BIO 135 Lab.
  • Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab (4 credits) equivalent to NU’s BIO 131 with BIO 136 Lab.
  • Microbiology with Lab (4 credits) equivalent to NU’s BIO 106 with BIO 116 Lab.
  • General, Organic & Biochemistry with Lab (4 credits) equivalent to NU’s CHEM 101 with CHEM 111 Lab.

All Allied Sciences must be completed within seven years of your start date at Neumann University. Transfer students may fulfill allied sciences as pre-major Nursing students at NU if not yet fulfilled.

Before enrolling in NUR 205: Fundamentals of Professional Nursing Practice, you must complete the required Allied Science courses with a minimum Allied Science GPA of 3.0 and the following core courses:

  • ENG 101: Effective College Writing — 3 credits
  • ENG 102: Academic Research and Writing — 3 credits
  • PSYCH 101: General Psychology — 3 credits
  • SOC 101: Principles of Sociology — 3 credits

A grade of C or higher is required for these core courses to qualify for transfer credit. Grades below C do not meet criteria.

If you previously attended another nursing program, you must submit a Nursing Applicant Disclosure Form along with official transcripts from all prior institutions.

Regardless of your overall cumulative GPA or Allied Science GPA, the following admission restrictions apply:

  • Prior nursing dismissal: Applicants previously dismissed from another nursing program are not eligible for admission.
  • Prior nursing course grades: Applicants who earned a grade below C+ (77%) in more than one nursing course, and/or grade less than pass (P) in a nursing lab or clinical practicum, at a prior institution are not eligible for admission.

Applicants from non-English-speaking countries, or for whom English is a second language, must submit official test scores before attending NUR 205: Fundamentals of Professional Nursing Practice.

The minimum required scores are:

  • TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 80, with a minimum score of 26 on the verbal subtest.
  • MELAB: Overall score of 81, with a speaking score of 3.
  • Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 110.

All clinical practicum requirements must be fully cleared before entering clinical courses, beginning with NUR 206/216: Health Assessment and Modalities.

  • CPR certification: Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association throughout the program.
  • Health requirements: Complete annual physical examinations, maintain continuous health insurance coverage, and meet all immunization requirements established by clinical partners.
  • Background checks: Complete required Criminal, Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprinting, and Office of Inspector General (OIG) checks.
  • Drug screenings: Annual and random drug screenings are required.
  • Transportation: Students are responsible for securing reliable personal transportation to and from clinical sites.

Important: A criminal history or positive drug screen can prevent clinical placement, result in program dismissal, and require mandatory reporting to the State Board of Nursing.

Detailed clinical compliance requirements, clearances, and policies are outlined in the Undergraduate Nursing Student Manual.

Explore Academic Planning & BSN Tracks

Students who meet the criteria for Neumann University’s Nursing program may pursue their degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Students are considered pre-major until placement into NUR 206/216: Health Assessment and Modalities (3 total credits). Progression in the major is based on academic achievement, clinical practicum performance, laboratory performance, professional conduct, compliance with the University Code of Conduct, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses (ANA, 2025). Academic Progression in the undergraduate nursing program is detailed in the University catalog. Students are assigned to an academic advisor for on-going academic progression policy reviews and guidance.

Full-Time Traditional Day BSN

The Full-Time Traditional Day Sequence is structured so that eligible transfer students complete their nursing coursework over 3 academic years (Fall and Spring terms), beginning with NUR 205: Fundamentals of Professional Nursing Practice in their first Fall semester.

To enter this track, you must complete a minimum 2.7 overall GPA, a 3.0 Allied Science GPA, and Core prerequisites (ENG 101/102, PSYCH 101, SOC 101) prior to enrollment.

  • Entry Term & Timeline: Begins annually in the Fall semester with NUR 205.
  • Coursework & Practicum Schedule: Daytime lectures are paired with daytime clinical practicums averaging 10–12 hours per week (typically full days on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays based on clinical site availability).
  • Onboarding & Preparation: Clinical practicums require advance submission of clearances, health records, immunizations, official nursing uniforms, and personal transportation.

Part-Time Evening BSN

The Part-Time Evening Nursing Sequence offers evening lectures paired with daytime clinical practicums.

To enter this track, you must complete the Allied Science requirements, required Core prerequisites (ENG 101/102, PSYCH 101, SOC 101), and the majority of your Core requirements prior to starting NUR 205: Fundamentals of Professional Nursing Practice.

  • Entry Term & Timeline: Begins annually in the Spring semester (January start) with NUR 205. With successful academic progression, students complete the program in 2.5 years (including continuous Fall, Spring, and Summer terms).
  • Coursework & Practicum Schedule: Evening course lectures are paired with daytime clinical practicums averaging 10–12 hours per week (typically full days on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays based on clinical site availability).
  • Onboarding & Preparation: Clinical practicums require advance submission of clearances, health records, immunizations, official nursing uniforms, and personal transportation.

Clinical scheduling and preparation: Both tracks require daytime clinical practicums averaging 10–12 hours per week, typically scheduled as full days on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays, depending on clinical site availability. Students must submit required clearances and health records, meet immunization requirements, obtain official nursing uniforms, and provide their own transportation.

Students are considered pre-major until placement into NUR 206/216: Health Assessment and Modalities (3 total credits). Progression depends on academic achievement, clinical and laboratory performance, professional conduct, and compliance with the University Code of Conduct and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. An academic advisor provides ongoing guidance, and complete progression policies are outlined in the University catalog.
