Internship Program

Neumann students have to complete at least one internship experience in order to graduate.* This provides our employers a diverse and robust candidate pool for their internship opportunity. Please contact Preeti Singh, Director, Career and Professional Development for any questions about our Internship Program. You can email singhp@neumann.edu or call (610) 558-5537. Thank you.

Academic Programs

What qualifies as an internship?

"An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent."  Source: the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE); read the NACE Position Paper on Internships

Internship Process and Requirements

  • The internship for credit must be a minimum 150 hours of experience and related to the student’s academic area of study. Internships can be posted year-round for students (spring, summer, fall).  Paid internships typically receive a higher number of responses as many of our students work part-time and cannot afford an unpaid experience. We encourage you offer some compensation or incentive with your experience.
  • Once the student is accepts the internship offer, they submit it for approval via Knight Career Network. The Center staff approves the internship and sends it to the internship Site Supervisor for final approval via email.  This internship listing also includes a Site Agreement or guidelines for employers who hire a Neumann intern.
  • Once approved by the site supervisor, the student is cleared to register for their internship course by the Center staff.
  • While enrolled in the internship course, students complete assignments related to their internship experience at your organization. The internship course instructor will be connecting with you at least once during the student’s time at the internship site. Towards the end of the semester/term, the course instructor will send you an evaluation of the student’s performance based on learning outcomes connected with the course.

Internship Resources

*Programs such as Social Work, Education and Nursing do not follow this guideline and have their own structured programs based on accreditation standards. Some academic programs require 2 internships as a graduation requirement after fall 2020.
