International Application Undergraduate Students (Bachelor's Degree)

If you are still completing a high school or secondary school education, or have completed high school or secondary school and not taken a college or university course, you may apply for admission as an undergraduate freshman student. If you are taking or have taken any college or university courses after graduation from high school, you must apply for admission as an undergraduate transfer student.

First Year Students
Apply through the Neumann Application or the Common Application. Both applications have the same requirements and your application choice will not have a bearing on your admission decision. Regardless of your application choice, there is no fee to apply to Neumann University.

Transfer Students
Apply through the Neumann Application

It is recommended that international students complete their application and be admitted by the dates listed below. Once a student is officially committed to Neumann University for their program, the application process for the I-20 will commence and can take several weeks to complete.

In order to obtain the immigration documents to be eligible for an international student visa F-1, Homeland Security requires students to demonstrate an official copy of the bank statements showing the total amounts below based on your program. Regardless of if you will live on or off-campus, or you will have more affordable accommodations, you still need to show the estimated amount to cover all living expenses around campus.  If you have been awarded an NU merit scholarship, you may deduct the scholarship amount and demonstrate the remaining funds and provide proof of the letter that confirms the award.

Canadian students do not need to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. consulate. However, they must be admitted in F-1 status at the U.S. border or preclearance location. This is a critical distinction: while no visa sticker is required, F-1 status must be granted by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the time of entry.

Important: You cannot enter the U.S. as a visitor and later change to student status. You must enter in F-1 status to begin your studies.

Required Document: Form I-20
All international students must obtain a Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility) from Neumann University before entering the U.S. This document confirms your eligibility for F-1 status.

To receive an I-20, students must:

  • Be admitted to Neumann University
  • Submit required financial and identification documents
  • Carefully complete Section 11 of the I-20

SEVIS Fee (Form I-901)
Before entering the U.S., students must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee online at fmjfee.com. Print and carry the payment receipt—it is required at the border.

Entering the U.S. in F-1 Status
Before traveling, ensure you have the following documents:

  • Valid Canadian passport (not expiring within 12 months)
  • Form I-20, signed by Neumann and the student
  • SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt
  • Neumann acceptance letter
  • Financial aid or scholarship letter (if applicable)
  • Financial documents submitted to Neumann
  • Course registration or unofficial transcript

Tip: Keep photocopies of all documents and share copies with a trusted family member.

At the border or preclearance location (e.g., Pearson International Airport), inform the CBP officer that you are entering in F-1 status and present your I-20 and supporting documents. You may be directed to secondary inspection.

After entry, retrieve your electronic I-94 record.  This record confirms your legal entry and status.

Note: You may enter the U.S. no more than 30 days before the program start date listed on your I-20.

NEXUS and Trusted Traveler Programs
Do not use the NEXUS lane when entering in F-1 status. You must speak with a CBP officer and present your I-20. Using NEXUS may result in incorrect admission status and jeopardize your ability to study.
