Serving as Community

Community Peer Ministers (CPM’s) are students serving in leadership positions with Office of Campus Ministry.

These student leaders assist fostering the faith development of their peers by providing opportunities for theological study and refection, student leadership, interfaith worship, pastoral care, spiritual development, and experiences of service in order for students to grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually.

3-DSC_0351[1]Serving as a CPM implies a willingness to explore one’s personal faith as well as a desire to understand how others with different beliefs come to know God. CPM’s are role models committed to dialogue, creating safe spaces, openness, community engagement, and student involvement.

Our FJC embodies the ethos of the Franciscan tradition by promoting the "Two Feet of Love in Action," emphasizing both direct service and systemic change. It's a space where individuals collaborate to address local concerns, challenge unjust policies, and advocate for policies fostering peace, justice, and environmental stewardship.

Here are some highlights of our FJC's advocacy efforts:

  1. Petitions for Knight's Café Hours: Advocating for increased accessibility to essential services for students and the community.
  2. Washington, D.C. Advocacy: Traveling to advocate for bills such as the Environmental Justice for All Act and the Justice for Black Farmers Act, aligning with our commitment to environmental justice and equitable policies.
  3. Campaign Against Trash Incinerator: Active campaigning against a proposed trash incinerator in Chester, PA, highlighting environmental and community health concerns.

These actions reflect our commitment to effecting positive change through advocacy, education, and community engagement. The FJC at Neumann University stands as a testament to our dedication to Franciscan values, striving to create a more just, equitable, and compassionate world through our collective efforts and advocacy initiatives.

Reverence for Music

St. Francis of Assisi, known for his profound spiritual depth and connection with nature, had a unique relationship with music. He saw music not just as a form of artistic expression but as a spiritual tool that could elevate the soul and facilitate a deeper connection with the divine.

NUpraise draws from the rich Franciscan tradition that reveres music as a means to glorify God and deepen spiritual connections. St. Francis of Assisi himself embraced music as a path to divine contemplation, recognizing its ability to uplift the soul and lead to a deeper understanding of God's presence in creation.

DSC_3401NUpraise seeks to embody the Franciscan spirit in its musical offerings, infusing the Sunday 7 PM Mass with melodies that resonate with the heart, inviting the congregation to participate in the sacred act of worship through song.

By drawing from the Franciscan tradition, NUpraise acknowledges and embraces this profound connection between music, spirituality, and the natural world. Through their musical offerings, they aim to emulate St. Francis's reverence for music as a pathway to experiencing the divine, inviting all to join in the spiritual journey through the transformative power of sacred music.
