Academics
John C. Ford Academic Resource Center
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is designed to support
both faculty and students with the development
of academic writing
and study skills.
- ARC offers friendly and individualized tutoring
for students in any course. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive
academic support system where qualified professionals and tutors
work together to assist learners in developing, maintaining,
and enhancing their ability to write and to learn more effectively
and efficiently.
- ARC provides a wealth of academic and writing skills upport
for both traditional and continuing education students. Through
a one-on-one guided approach, students are directed to select
from a variety of learning tools: an evaluation of academic
strengths and weaknesses, individual conferences, computer tutorials,
specific printed and online resources, models and self tests
to encourage independence and critical thinking.
- ARC benefits all learners regardless of their academic level
or grade point average. ARC 's professional and trained staff
serve anyone who is willing to ask and receive instruction and
guidance in writing skill development or tutoring in specific
courses.
- ARC supports classroom instruction by requesting that students
bring a syllabus or written instructions to each tutoring session.
In this way, both student and ARC staff target specific areas
of concern. All assistance is individualized and self-paced.
- ARC provides a suitable environment for individual study and
test taking, access to computers and space for group discussion.
- ARC web assisted activities will provide a quick review, assessment,
practice, and confirmation of specific areas of concern for
both student and instructor. Handouts are provided for future
reference. Students are encouraged to sign up for follow-up
guidance when necessary.
