Credits And Refunds For Resident Students

Neumann University will use a multi-step process to determine the amounts of credits or refunds to resident students as a result of the dislocation we were required to make for the spring 2020 semester because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The steps are as follows:

  1. We will calculate a pro-rated amount of housing charges (room) based on the choice of residence selected. The pro-rated amount of 50% will extend from March 15, 2020, through the end of the spring 2020 semester.
  2. We will calculate a pro-rated amount of unused meal plan charges (including bonus points) based on the choice of meal plan selected. The pro-rated amount will extend from March 15, 2020, through the end of the spring 2020 semester.
  3. If a student currently has an account balance and owes the University funds for any reason including a payment plan for the spring semester, we will offset the pro-rated room and board credit against the amount that is still outstanding. There is a possibility that the amount a student currently owes offsets the pro-rated credit total and there will be no credit or refund to the student.
  4. If a student received institutional aid including a housing grant from the University in order to cover the direct cost of attending the University, the student may not be eligible to get a credit or refund, as the institutional aid amount awarded to the student for attending the spring semester of 2020 will be adjusted accordingly.
  5. For students who do not have an account balance and do not owe the University funds for any reason including a payment plan, did not receive institutional aid to cover the direct costs of the University, and are freshman, sophomores or juniors, the University will calculate the adjusted amounts and the difference will be applied as a credit to your student account.
  6. For students who have received Title IV aid (such as Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans) to cover their cost of attendance, if they do not have an outstanding balance, their prorated room and board credit will be returned subject to DOE guidelines.
  7. Students who are graduating seniors, the credit amount on account after the previous steps noted above will be refunded by check.
  8. The University office of the Bursar expects to have all student credits / refunds posted to student accounts starting April 30, 2020 but no later than the end of the Spring Semester.
