FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

housing application process

Living on campus is a pivotal part of the college experience. It’s where friendships flourish, late-night study sessions happen, and a sense of belonging takes root. For full-time undergraduate students (those enrolled in at least 12 credits), our residential halls offer a supportive environment that complements academic pursuits. We encourage all eligible individuals to explore the comprehensive information about the application and selection process on our website. From deadlines to room preferences, everything you need to know awaits you there! Specific details regarding the cost of housing are available on the University's Tuition and Fees page.

Returning students can secure your spot on campus for the upcoming academic year during the Housing Selection process.

Accessing the Application: Starting March 25th, returning students can access the housing application through the eRezLife icon on the MyNU portal. Log in, find the housing application link, and get started!

Priority Deadlines and Benefits: To receive priority consideration and select your own housing for the 24-25 academic year, submit your housing application by the returning student priority deadline of April 5th at 5pm. If you meet this deadline and are registered as a full-time student (12 credits or more), you’ll receive a housing priority number and a designated time slot to select your housing.

Customize Your Living Experience: On the housing application, you can request specific roommates or suitemates with whom you would like to live. Please note this is a request and is not guaranteed. In addition, students can share the qualities they seek in roommates or their living environment. Students also select their meal plan for the 24-25 academic year.

Late Applications and Special Requests: Students who submit housing applications after the returning student housing priority deadline will be assigned based on space availability by Residence Life staff or placed on the wait list until a space becomes available. This includes those requesting Learning Communities, specific roommates, or individuals with approved housing accommodations.

Get ready to make Neumann your home away from home!

As a new student or transfer student, you have the exciting opportunity to live on campus and become an integral part of our vibrant community. Here's how the housing application process works:

Accessing the Application: Starting mid-April, new students can access the housing application through two convenient channels, your new student checklist or through the eRezLife icon on the MyNU portal.

Application Submission and Assignment: Once students have submitted their housing application, our dedicated Residence Life staff will work diligently to assign you housing. New and transfer students can expect to receive their housing assignment, complete with roommate or suitemate information, in mid-July.

Customize Your Experience: Students can request specific roommates or suitemates on the application. Please note that this is a request and not guaranteed. However, the Residence Life staff will try our best to place you together for those individuals who submit their housing application by the new student priority deadline, June 30, 2024. Students can also indicate their desired qualities in roommates or their living environment. Finally, students select their meal plans on their housing application.

Housing Priority Deadline: Students should strive to submit their housing application by the New Student Housing Priority deadline, June 30, 2024, if they need a housing accommodation, would like to live with a specific roommate, or want to live in a Learning Community or special housing. Applications received after the housing priority deadline will be assigned housing based on space availability. This may impact students' ability to reside with their desired roommate or in a particular community.

We're thrilled to have you join our residential community.

The university's activities are designed to promote its continuing policy of providing equal opportunity for employment and education and access to all programs and services without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, gender identity, political affiliation, veteran’s status, or disability. If accommodations related to housing are required for a documented medical or psychological need, a request must be submitted to Accessibility Services.

If you have needs that necessitate special housing accommodations, students are required to register with the Office of Accessibility Services, including providing documentation. Every effort will be made to accommodate approved requests. However, only requests approved or renewed by established housing priority deadlines will be guaranteed. Requests after housing priority deadlines will be on a space availability basis only. Once the request is approved, Residence Life will reach out to provide housing information.

Additional information regarding requests for accommodations is available on the Office of Accessibility Services website.

It is highly recommended that students requesting to live with a roommate complete their housing application by their associated priority deadline.

The housing priority deadline is the date students should seek to submit their housing application if they would like to have the highest likelihood of living with their desired roommate, living in a learning community or specialty housing, having their housing accommodation(s) guaranteed, or for returning students, would like to select their own housing. In addition to submitting the housing application by this date, students must verify all roommates in their roommate group, have renewed/been approved for their housing accommodations by Accessibility Services, and for returning students be registered full-time (12-credits).

Students may still submit housing applications after their housing priority deadline. However, returning students will be placed on a waitlist until after housing selection is complete. At that time, Residence Life staff will select housing on their behalf.

Can first-year students reside in an apartment-style community?
Only first-year students with an approved housing accommodation for kitchen access in an apartment-style community can reside in that housing type. Otherwise, first-year housing options include traditional-style singles, suite-style private bathrooms, and suite-style semi-private bathrooms.
How do I sign up for a meal plan?
All residential students are required to maintain a meal plan. Resident students select their meal plan choice on their Housing Application.
How can I change my meal plan?
Meal plan adjustments can only be made up until the first Friday of the semester. You can change your meal plan selection by completing the Meal Plan Change Form through the Business Office.
How do I indicate a preferred roommate or suitemate on my housing application?
If you have the name of a potential roommate or suitemate, submit your Housing Application first. Then, when you log into the eRezLife Housing Portal, on the home screen, you will see two recommended actions. You can create a roommate group by using the email of your preferred roommate or suitemate.

You may also search for a roommate. Go to your home screen and you will see two recommended actions. You can create a roommate profile and add information about yourself, or you can search within the system for a roommate match.

All individuals in a roommate group MUST BE CONFIRMED, indicated with a green check mark next to each person's name, by the Housing Priority Deadline. Groups confirmed after that date and time may only be assigned together if there is space available. Roommate/suitemate pairs that are not confirmed will not be placed together.
I applied for housing, but have decided not to live on campus. How do I request a Housing Release?

Below are the Housing Agreement Release & Cancellation Criteria as articulated in the 2024-2025 Housing Agreement. Students can request a Housing Release by submitting the Housing Release Request Form on the eRezLife Housing Portal. Please note it may take up to 5 business days for your request to be reviewed and a decision made.

A. Resident(s) may request a housing application cancellation any time up until housing assignments are sent to the Resident’s Neumann University email by emailing reslife@neumann.edu.

B. After a housing assignment is sent to the Resident through July 12, 2024, Resident(s) can request a housing agreement release for any reason without a housing cancellation fee by submitting the Housing Agreement Release Request Form on the Residence Life website.

C. From July 13th-August 9th, a Resident may request a housing agreement release for any reason with a $250 housing cancellation fee applied to their student account. The full cost of housing will be refunded. Students request a housing release by submitting the Housing Agreement Release Request Form on the Residence Life website.

D. Resident(s) wishing to be released from their housing after August 9th, must submit the Housing Agreement Release Request Form, provide supporting documentation, and meet one of the cancellation criteria listed below.
      i.    Resident is no longer a full-time student and is below 12-credits for the semester.
ii.    Resident is experiencing a financial hardship that was unknown at the time they entered into their housing
                agreement.
iii.    Resident accepted a co-op or internship experience that is more than 25-commutable miles from campus and has housing accommodations at a location in closer proximity than campus.
iv.    Resident is accepted and attending a study abroad program.
      v. The resident has an approved medical accommodation by the Office of Accessibility Services that cannot be met in on-campus housing.

In cases of extenuating circumstances, a resident may submit a Housing Release Request Form to request a release from this Agreement under terms different from those provided above. Housing release requests for extenuating circumstances are reviewed by a committee, which may include representatives from Financial Aid, Accessibility Services, and the Dean of Students or designee. Residence Life is not a voting member of the committee. The committee reserves the right to deny any Housing Release Request not meeting the above criteria.

Can I participate in a Learning Community, but live with someone who is not in the community?
At this time, based on demand for the Learning Community programs, students will need to reside with other individuals who are also in the same Learning Community. If space becomes available in the community, students will be contacted regarding the opportunity to have non-learning community roommates. On the Housing Application, Learning Community interest is given greater priority than roommate requests.
